Red, White, and Blue--Health for You!


As we celebrate the birth of our nation, let’s stay healthy! Taking care of ourselves and our loved ones is the best way to enjoy this beautiful summer season as well as many summers to come. Here are a few fun facts to remember as you visit the grocery store or the farmer’s market this month. You can prepare something healthy for picnicking all throughout the summer: Red—Red foods help reduce inflammation and promote heart health as well as prostate, urinary tract, and DNA health. They protect the brain for sharper memory, and they also lower the risk of certain types of cancer.

Cranberries, Raspberries, Red Currants, Pomegranates, Watermelon, Tomatoes, Radishes, Beets, Strawberries, Apples, & Cherries White—White foods support healthy bones, circulation, and arteries. They lower cholesterol levels, and some may provide antifungal and antibacterial benefits. They also help fight heart disease and lower the risk of certain cancers.

Bananas, Cauliflowers, Grapes, Cabbage, Potatoes, & Onions Blue—Blue and purple food benefits go hand in hand. These foods are good for heart, brain, bone, and artery health. They boost your immune system, aid in weight loss, remedy constipation, and fight against depression. They also lower the risk for certain cancers, as well as supporting good memory health.

Blueberries, Blackberries, Black Currants, Eggplant, Black raspberry, Elderberries, Plums, Grapes This July, you can proudly eat these foods in red, white, and blue.
